Joel and Victoria Osteen: A Night of Hope

The 700 Club

CBN.comJoel and Victoria Osteen bring uplifting messages to millions of people worldwide weekly through multiple media outlets.  Joel is considered by many to be “America’s Pastor” at one of America’s largest and most diverse congregations at Lakewood Church in Houston, TX.  Lakewood’s church services are broadcast across the country and in 100 nations weekly by TV and podcast.  Joel and Victoria’s NY Times best-selling books and live worship events also bring encouragement to the masses.

On April 25, 2009, Joel and Victoria held the first “Night of Hope” event in the newly renovated Yankee Stadium in New York.  It was the first non-baseball event ever held in the stadium.  This past April 24, another “Night of Hope” was held in Dodger Stadium.  With 100 pastors in attendance, it was a great expression of unity for the body of Christ.   Each of the stadium events drew over 45,000 people. Through the end of 2010 “A Night of Hope” will be held in the following cities: Norfolk, VA (August 20); Indianapolis, IN; London, England (October 2010); Sacramento, CA; Miami, FL; and Israel (February 2011).

In The Green Room with Joel and Victoria Osteen

Joel says it is important to tour for people to see live what the ministry is like in person and not just through the media.  Joel has also said, “It gives people the opportunity to connect with us in a better way and it's a chance for people to bring their friends and families and really make a declaration of their faith.”  The “Nights of Hope” are about inspiring people to expect God’s best for them.  Joel and Victoria anticipated great things and great things have happened.

Joel says, “More than ever, there is a need for hope across our nation.”  The message of hope is so important because there is news of so many negative things that are around us, like the state of the economy, etc.  Joel and Victoria want to bring a message that God is in control and He can turn things around.  It is good for people to be reminded of this message.   Without hope you can’t have faith.  You need to have hope to ignite faith.

Lakewood’s core message is: Our God is a good God who desires to bless those who are obedient and faithful to Him through Jesus Christ and God wants to raise you higher.  Joel likes to tell people that, “God’s dream for your life is bigger that your own.”  He speaks from experience.

He never expected God to take him to the places he’s been.  Joel was once behind the scenes working for the media department of Lakewood Church while his father, the late John Osteen, was the senior pastor.  For many years, John encouraged Joel to preach and Joel finally accepted his father’s invitation in early 1999.  Little did anyone know that would be the last Sunday of John’s life. Two weeks later Joel began preaching regularly and was installed as Lakewood Church’s new senior pastor later that year.  Over ten years later, Lakewood is one of the nation’s largest churches and has a growing international ministry.  Joel’s deepest desire is that everyone who hears this message of hope and encouragement would choose to accept salvation through Jesus Christ and God’s goodness and mercy to become all that God wants them to be.  A core scripture for Joel, Victoria, and Lakewood Church is Ephesians 3:20: “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…” (NKJV)
