        - The town of Bumblyburg needs a hero. Who better to save the day than LarryBoy, the lovable cucumber from the VeggieTales series? The famous superhero is back in LarryBoy and the Bad Apple – the newest production from Big Idea, Inc. LarryBoy finds himself facing a crisis when Bad Apple and her partner in crime Curly the worm try to take control of the town by making all of its citizens submit to their temptations. One by one, she tempts the good people of Bumblyburg and leaves them stranded in a dream world she creates for them. They become prisoners of their own desires. Even Mayor Blueberry finds herself vulnerable to Bad Apple’s charms. Butler Alfred instructs LarryBoy that he is the only one who can save the town, but he must remain strong. The she-villain has found his one weakness, an all-consuming love of chocolate. Can he resist her sweet advances and rescue Bumblyburg’s citizens in time for the town’s 300th anniversary celebration? LarryBoy and the Bad Apple offers a clever look at the issue of temptation that both kids and adults will both enjoy. The episode is centered around Matthew 26:41 -- Keep alert and pray. Otherwise, temptation will overpower you. For though the spirit is willing, the body is weak! (NLT) As he fights to free the town’s citizens from the snares that Bad Apple has used to imprison them, LarryBoy explains that none of us are strong enough to fight temptation on our own. We need God’s help and the help of our friends.
While not quite as humorous as past episodes, LarryBoy and the Bad Apple is still an enjoyable journey. Superhero LarryBoy -- complete with suction-cup ears -- is always pleasant to watch, and the other characters that VeggieTale fans have grown to love continue to delight the audience in this episode as well. In addition, the new villain is engaging and fun to dislike. The DVD offers several amusing bonus features including instructions on how to draw LarryBoy and the Bad Apple, family activities and games, and video trivia. If the kids tire of these fun features, Big Idea Inc. is also releasing LarryBoy and the Bad Apple games for PlayStation 2 and Game Boy Advance. The games, as well as the movie’s Soundtrack, will be available Aug. 1. LarryBoy and the Bad Apple hits stores on July 29.
